Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch: MK5430

I've always loved rose gold, so I'm really enjoying the current popularity of rose gold accessories. I love my Sydney Evan Rose Gold Disc necklace (posted about here), and now Hubby has bought me the most beautiful rose gold watch...I really am in rose gold heaven!

I've been looking for a rose gold watch for a while - I think a lot of the current selection is inspired by Victoria Bechkam's Rose Gold Rolex Daytona - isn't it gorgeous?

I took some time to find the most suitable watch - I knew I definitely wanted both the band AND the watch face to be rose gold. Michael Kors oversize watches have been quite popular in the blogosphere - especially their metal and ceramic watches. After some research, I discovered that Fossil makes Michael Kors watches. They sell similar (but more affordable) versions of many MK watches through their own line.

US shoppers are SO lucky - there are so many amazing deals on watches - the MK5430 is on Amazon for $187.50 (although Saks has it at $250). I didn't want to risk buying my watch online (due to cross-country servicing and warranty issues - as well as potential customs and duties), so we had to pay CAD$300 at Holt Renfrew.
The top two watches are Fossil brand watches, while the bottom two are MK watches.I've tried all four of these watches on. The Fossil watch with the crystal face (mini Riley) looks quite flimsy in person, but the Stella is very pretty. However both the Stella and the MK watch (MK5128) in the bottom left corner have large faces (around 38mm). I have small wrists - so I look a little ridiculous when I wear such a large watch face! The watch I purchased (MK5430) has a 33mm watch face - a much better size for my wrist, while still working with the oversize trend.
Even though I ended up buying a MK watch, if you can wear a larger watch face and just want the Rose Gold oversized look - I'd definitely look into the Fossil Stella. The MK5128 watch has a nicer sheen and finish up close - but the Fossil is $135 cheaper.


My other dress watch also has a rose gold face - it's a Longines Dolce Vita watch bought 5 years ago. I think it's a lovely contrast to my MK watch - small, delicate, silver-toned and square-shaped. I'm so grateful to have both these watches - and to my lovely hubby for giving me both! (P.S. I'm lovely to my hubby too LOL - I just finished doing his taxes - he HATES doing paperwork!)

The influx of collaboration watches continues as Urban Research and Kinashi Cycle announce two G-Shock G-100 watches in Japan.



Fashion brand Urban Research is releasing 1,000 units of the G-Shock G-100-1BMJF to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Jacques Lemans Liverpool DayDate 1-1635

Jacques Lemans é uma empresa austríaca fundada em 1975. O seu posicionamento no mundo da relojoaria fica algures a meio caminho entre uma marca de moda e uma marca dedicada aos relógios.
E sim, eu sei que até agora tenho evitado falar em marcas fashion, mas há uma boa razão por trazer aqui este modelo em particular, o cronógrafo Liverpool DayDate 1-1635. Cheguei até este relógio porque me ocorreu que certamente haveria algum movimento de quartzo com funcionalidades similares ou equivalentes ao Valjoux 7750 – ou seja, um cronógrafo com complicação de dia e data às 3H00.
E encontrei esse movimento no catálogo da Citizen: o movimento Miyota 0S00. A partir daí, procurei na Web relógios produzidos com este movimento e “tropecei” neste Jacques Lemans.
Como se pode ver pelo desenho do mostrador, à primeira vista bem podíamos estar na presença de um relógio baseado num movimento automático Valjoux 7750. Mas é de facto o Miyota 0S00 de quartzo que aqui encontramos. O resultado é um cronógrafo com um desenho clássico e dimensões XXL (46mm), com caixa em aço, resistência à água até 10 atmosferas (100 metros) e mostrador em vidro sintético endurecido.
Existe um total de seis variações deste modelo, com diferentes combinações de cor de caixa e mostrador bem como de tipo e material da bracelete. Os modelos mais baratos (como o da foto) custam €299, os intermédios têm um preço de €349 e os mais caros ficam por €499. Em qualquer dos casos, uma pesquisa na Web permite encontrar qualquer um deles por um valor um pouco inferior.

A conjugação deste movimento nesta caixa de 42 mm resultou num grande equilíbrio, com os sub-mostradores do cronógrafo às 2H00 e às 6h00, janela de data às 4h00 e o já referido indicador de fuso horário às 10h00. A caixa inclui ainda uma coroa protegida e o poussouir start/stop do cronógrafo anodizado a vermelho.

O indicador de fuso horário pode ser usado como tal – indicando, literalmente, um segundo fuso horário, o que é útil para quem viaja frequentemente mas também para quem tem negócios com clientes noutros países, de forma a podermos saber rapidamente que horas são noutras paragens. Contudo, este indicador pode ter uma funcionalidade alternativa: caso seja sincronizado com o fuso horário corrente, serve de indicador de 24 horas.

O preço, em Portugal, é de apenas €299 para qualquer uma das variantes, o que me parece uma enorme pechincha para o que aqui nos é oferecido.

Museu do Relógio VINTE4

Os relógios de 24 horas são uma categoria interessante no mundo da relojoaria. À primeira vista, podem passar por um relógio normal (até porque há relógios convencionais com escalas de 24 horas, pelo que o desenho do mostrador não conta toda a história), mas possuem uma funcionalidade diferenciadora importante: o ponteiro das horas demora um dia inteiro (24 horas, portanto) a concluir uma volta.

Isto significa que, num relógio destes, quando o ponteiro das horas aponta para o algarismo 4, sabemos que são 4 da madrugada e não 4 da tarde – porque se fossem 4 da tarde, o ponteiro das horas estaria a apontar para as 16... na posição onde habitualmente estariam as 8!

Uma utilização casual de um destes relógios (alternando com modelos convencionais) pode provocar alguma confusão, porque estamos habituados a "ver as horas" através da posição relativa dos ponteiros, ignorando os algarismos. De resto, é por isso que existem relógios que, por questões estéticas, usam apenas índices às 12h00 ou prescindem até totalmente de qualquer marcação no mostrador – e mesmo assim conseguimos saber "que horas são".

Ora isso deixa de ser possível nos relógios de 24 horas. Para quem gosta deles, o ideal é usá-los com frequência, até se tornar num (novo) hábito a leitura das horas num só olhar. Ou então, assumir que os vamos adquirir como peça de coleção.

Acresce ainda um outro problema frequente com os relógios de 24 horas, pelo menos para mim: tendem a ser... muito feios! :-) Ou, mesmo quando não são feios, os seus mostradores são demasiado busy, com resultados esteticamente duvidosos.

É por isso que vale a pena uma referência a uma nova edição especial limitada do Museu do Relógio, o Vinte4. Equipado com um movimento automático com data Vostok 2431 modificado, com acabamentos tipo cotes de Géneve e parafusos polidos em aço azul, este relógio possui uma caixa em aço de 42 mm com revestimento em PVD negro.

O diâmetro da caixa permitiu criar um mostrador que se adequa muito bem à exibição de uma escala completa de 24 horas. A opção de exibir apenas as horas pares e deixar as ímpares a cargo de índices triangulares parece-me uma boa ideia, porque mantém o mostrador relativamente "limpo" e evita precisamente o que não gosto de ver em muitos dos relógios deste género, que é uma profusão de números que acaba por não resultar muito bem, além de dificultar a leitura das horas.
